Carol & Arthur Rivoire discovered Fjords in the early seventies during the ten years they were living in Alsace, France. Returning to the States in 1979, they bought a large farm in New Hampshire and began importing Fjords from Holland.
In 1987, they vacationed in Nova Scotia, fell in love with the land and the people, and moved in 1991, bringing with them 18 Fjordhorses. Soon after, they resumed importing from Holland, hand-picking the best quality yearling fillies. Over all the years, the Rivoires have imported over 100 Fjords from Europe, including their magnificent Norwegian stallion, Gjest, born in 1977.
Beaver Dam farm continued breeding, and have had over 90 foals born on the farm, all live births, and all in good health, which is a tribute to the hardiness of the breed, and the excellent conditions for horse breeding in Nova Scotia.
For 17 years, Beaver Dam Farm offered equine learning vacations in riding and driving. Currently, the farm is offering Old-Fashioned Farm Vacations where people can come and relax on a beautiful farm and connect with all the horses.
